1. Canadian War Museum
Many of us donโt know whether a war museum is the place to go. I will tell you this โ this one should make your list. I donโt tell it because I got to make a list. I tell this because this actually tells you a lot about Canada.
This is a national museum reflecting the countryโs military history in Ottawa.
By The museum is one of the best places that you canโt miss. And I will tell you why.
This place serves as an educational facility for visitors and a memorial to the countryโs past. I know what you look for when it comes to a war museum. Youโre looking for permanent exhibitions and galleries and smaller display spaces. This one has that โ and more.
Apart from these, you also have several temporary exhibitions. These are also organized there from time to time. If you are lucky โ you could go when one is happening. Like itโs interesting to see how there is an amazing collection of military artifacts under the Canadian governmentโs possession.
You can also approach the museum guide available at the entrance to explore more. โBattleground,โ โFor Crown and County,โ โForged In Fire,โ and A Violent Peaceโ. You can say these are the four main exhibitions that cover all information relating to the countryโs past wars and disputes.
2. Parliament Hill
I will tell you why we made Parliament Hillย come in the second spot. It is one of the most prominent buildings of national importance, and as our Founder says, is one of the top national monuments to look at in Canada. Maybe right after the beautiful architecture in Quebec City.
Parliament Hill is beautiful, huge and a must-go place if you are looking to know about Canadaโs legislature, right from the inside! Just be sure to book a tour before you go โ and remember, there are several tours here.โ

Now, you may think why Canada chose this building as its parliament. The reason is simple โ because of its Gothic revival-style buildings and architectural elements.
Today, it has the offices of members of Parliament. And it also is the Houses of Commons and the Senate. If you go there, do not forget to explore the Grand entrance hall. It is an amazing sight, and even the court is very popular among visitors where trials occur. This building is undergoing some renovations though, as you can see from the picture above. And thatโs because itโs a bit old โ and was in need of repairs. The repairs and renovations might take a few more years to complete.
Should you be able to visit though, prepare for a day of learning. You can discover many things relating to the history, functions, art, beautiful grounds, and monuments of the Canadian Parliament with the help of guided or self-guided tours. Apart from these, there are many interesting things to experience, including the sound and light show, amazing Carillon concerts, and the Christmas lights. You can also witness the live debates and proceedings of the Senate and the House of Commons.
3. Canada Aviation And Space Museum
The Museum is at 11 Aviation Pkwy, Ottawa, ON, K1K 4R3 and is home to many military and civilian aircraft. And I will tell you to go with your family if they are a fan of guns or aircraft. Thatโs because this museum displays a huge collection of more than 130 aircraft and artifacts.
In fact, you will find there are various educational programs for students. These are aimed to help them explore space and the wonder of flights. I will tell you โ if you have kids, itโs the perfect place to go. And itโs the right place for your teenage child (or even you), to learn some interesting new things. Students are given several opportunities to observe, explore, and discuss around. The Steam-based programs are also very interesting and fun.
The biggest attractions of this museum are the permanent and temporary exhibitions held there. Also, I suggest going to โCanada In Spaceโ, which is the right choice if you want to explore the museumโs space offerings. It also gives an overview of the countryโs most notable achievements.
The other place to visit is the main exhibition hall, where you will learn about the story of aviation, focusing on Canadian contributions and their effects on its life.
Then, there is Eyes On The Skies. Here, you can explore the story of industry insiders and learn more about the factors affecting air traffic management in Canada. Heck, you can even find a special area named โTiny Controllersโ โ and it is exactly as you think. This oneโs a great place to go for small kids.
4. Peace Tower
Peace Tower is one the most prominent buildings in Canada, located at Parliament Hill, Ottawa K1A 0A2.

Peace Tower is the highest point (302 feet 6 inches tall) in Ottawa and encompasses Parliament Hill, the river, Gatineau, the entire city, and the northside hills. And I will tell you this โ itโs as beautiful as you see. If you think Canada is only about exploring nature, you are wrong. It is also home to some beautiful castles and old architecture.
You can experience the panoramic view from the top of the tower. You will love this iconic building for many things โ including its marvelous Gothic architecture. The elevator has lovely tower focal bells. I love it because of how it memorializes the Canadian soldiers who died in world wars.
This is right near Parliament Hill, and is just as beautiful. Itโs also why you just cannot ignore to go here!โ

5. National Gallery Of Canada
The National Gallery is at 380 Sussex Dr, Ottawa, ON, K1N 9N4.
The National Gallery exhibits the most exceptional and diverse collections of artworks. You will be amused by the amazing artworks there, including various paintings, sculptures, drawings, and photographs relating to different historical periods.
I would suggest you explore the exhibitions there showcasing the excellent works of Canadian artists, both native and contemporary. You can also learn about the story of civilization in Canada in the form of visual arts. If you prefer visual arts, let me tell you that the Canada National Gallery has a library with an extensive collection of visual arts literature in Canada. You will see the libraryโs huge collection of books, catalogues, subscriptions, documentation files, study photographs, and more. Bring in your kids so they can get an insight into the historical world through these artworks.
It is a perfect choice for your day trip, where you can easily spend your whole day enjoying the visual artwork along with some excellent snacks, coffees, or meals.
For refreshments, I would recommend going to My Bistro, Happy Goat Coffee, and Tavern inside the Gallery. 6. Rideau Canal
It is situated at 1125 Colonel by Dr, Ottawa ON K1S 5R1 and connects Ottawa City and Lake Ontario to the Saint Lawrence River, near Kingston.

Do you know that the Rideau Canal is 202 meters long and is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Ottawa? This place in Ottawa offers different ways to experience different seasons. I am saying this as you can experience the spot in unique ways. Want to know how?
- In winter, the river remains completely frozen, and you will enjoy ice-skating along the river, gliding your way through downtown Ottawa. So, it is also popular as the worldโs largest naturally frozen skating rink.
- In summer, you can enjoy an eco-friendly cruise on the waters or stroll and cycle along the canalโs scenic pathways. You can also hire a paddleboat, kayak, or canoe for a wonderful drive.
I would recommend you explore the other attractions along the Rideau Canal, including the Bytown Museum, which is housed in Ottawaโs oldest stone building, Ottawa Locks, and Rideau Canal pathways. It is an amazing blend of nature and history and a perfect visiting spot for outdoor fun.
7. Canadian Museum Of History
The iconic Canadian Museum of History is located in Ottawa on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River.
So, are you a history buff or a history student researching the past of different places? The Canadian Museum of History could be your ultimate destination. But, even if you are not so interested in knowing history, I would say you will be blown away by the unique and amazing collections of more than three million artifacts, documents, artworks, photographs, and other specimens.
Several temporary and permanent anthropology, history, and ethnology exhibitions are held there. You must visit these popular permanent exhibitions there- Canadian History Hall, Grand Hall, Canadian Childrenโs Museum, and the Canadian Stamp Collection. The museum also hosts some online exhibitions. The museum provides facility rentals for organizing special events on rent.
8. Majorโs Hill Park
Majorโs Hill Park is surprisingly beautiful in downtown Ottawa, at Mackenzie Ave, behind the Chateau Laurier, Ottawa K1N 1G8.
Are you tired of travelling or exploring this big city and looking for natural, calm surroundings to relax your mind and body? I would suggest you visit this park.
The park in the city center hosts several events and is open all year. It is surrounded by the most notable attractions in Ottawa, including Parliament Hill, the US embassy, and other major attractions. It is amazing to see numerous tulips blooming in the spring season. So what are you waiting for? Become a part of the popular Canadian Tulip festival that marks the end of winter.

If you are fond of nature and love to explore the scenic beauty of the lush green parks. Itโs okay but I want to add here that itโs not just about strolling the parks and lakes. You must try the Canadian Museum of Nature Housed in the ornate gothic-revival Victoria Memorial building.
And the reason behind is that it offers an insight into the wonders of the natural world and showcases the worldโs best natural history collections. It is a perfect combination of fun and knowledge and is one of the best places to visit with family.
Get to know about nature more closely through several temporary and permanent exhibitions related to botany, zoology, mineralogy, and paleontology displayed throughout the year. Some popular collections held there include
- The Fossil Gallery consists of several marine and dinosaur fossils.

Within an area of four blocks square, you will find museums, cafes, boutiques, galleries, food shops, pubs, restaurants, and aesthetic saloons. The market is always packed with fresh foods, maple syrup, craft vendors, unique eateries, and several utility products. During the summer season, you will notice many small stalls of flowers, fruits, and vegetables in the street, supplementing the main market hall.
The Byward market is one of the busiest public markets in Canada. It offers everything from restaurants to traditional eateries, pubs, and bars. Have the best food with your favourite wines, and enjoy your trip to Ottawa.
12. Royal Canadian Mint
The Royal Canadian Mint is located at 320 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, ON, K1A 0G8.
Travelling to any place should not be limited to having only fun and adventure, but you must explore some unique spots to learn from The Royal Canadian Mint offers you an opportunity to explore how these coins are designed and produced
It is a national historic site that used to manufacture most of the countryโs coinage, including gold, silver, and platinum coinage. Now, it produces hand-crafted collector, commemorative coins, medals, medallions, and gold bullion bars and coins.
13. Notre Dame Basilica
Notre Dame Basilica is a Roman Catholic Basilica located at 56 Guigues Ave, Ottawa, K1N 5H5.
Want to have spiritual and harmonious exposure? Visit Notre Dame Basilica! You can join their worshipping and prayers and participate in the churchโs life by giving your time and talent. Anyone who is visiting Ottawa should not miss this amazing piece of art. It has been designated the National Historic Site of Canada and is the oldest standing church in Ottawa.
I canโt stop myself from telling you how it looks. The basilica boasts two towering twin spires, which you can also see from the city center and Parliament Hill. The churchโs exterior is quite austere and simple, but as you enter, it is a delight for your eyes. It reflects Canadian religious art and Gothic architecture beautifully. The elaborated carvings with Biblical inscriptions inside and the stained-glass windows with arches and terraced galleries make it look magnificent.
You can also visit the National Gallery, Byward Market, Peacekeeping Monument, and Nepean Point, as these are some of the attractions nearby within a 10 km area. For refreshments or food, try nearby restaurants, including the Big Pub, Courtyard, and Play Food and Wine.
14. National War Memorial
The National War Memorial is a historical building in Ottawa located at 4 Elgin Street, Ottawa, ON K1N 9N6.

It is a tall, granite memorial arch with accreted bronze sculptures in Ottawa. A statue around its base is popular as โThe Response.โ It was constructed to commemorate the Canadians and soldiers who died during the First World War. It salutes their heroism and sacrifices and represents freedom and peace. It has 23 bronze statues representing the 11 branches of Canadian forces.
The National War Memorial is located near Parliament Hill, the National Arts Center, and Confederation Park, which you can easily explore while visiting these places.
15. Central Experimental Farm
The Central Experimental Farm or the Experimental Farm is located at Prince of Wales, Ottawa, ON K2C 3R6.
Last, but not least, adding to my list of recommendations for you to visit in Ottawa is the Central Experimental Farm. The farm is a National Historic site in Canada and the home to Agriculture and Agri-food Canada HQ. It is also considered among the best places to visit and is open to the public throughout the year. You get the chance to see Over 10,000 species of flora and many beautiful gardens.
Here I want to describe some of its main attractions-
- Ornamental Gardensโ Undoubtedly they are the photographersโ favourite spots. There are several beautiful areas like the rose garden, the rock garden, the annual garden, the perennial collections, the hedge collections, and many more. The gardens have around 65 different species of plants, 125 lilac varieties, irises and roses, and many other plants to explore.
- The Arboretumโ A rolling land between Prince of Wales Drive and the Rideau Canal that displays a wide range of trees and shrubs, different soil types, and moisture levels.
- Tropical Green Houseโ Explore the tropical greenhouse exhibition for free.
Apart from these, there are some research sites, a national historic site plaque, and other attractions on the farm. You can also use the farm space for some events or functions like weddings or hosting any charitable event. However, the number of guests is limited there, and you must get permission from the farm authorities.
