Avocado seeds are great for your health, but should you take them while traveling? The large brown-shaped seeds present about 13 to 17% of the whole avocado fruit. And while you – including me – might like to consume the creamy green layer, did you know that the seed tastes great too?
I didn’t know until recently that you have these awesome beverages with avocado seeds in them and you can even use them as a condiment for many cosmetic products. But I digress… I am not going to talk about why you need to take avocado for your health, but instead, whether you can during your travels in Canada.
And the answer is yes, with its dietary fibre content, it’s a suitable choice for our everyday diet. Plus, you can add it as a healthy condiment.
However, while it is safe to consume avocado seeds, I think we can agree not to eat the seed as a whole. Instead, extract, clean, and dry the seed, and then remove its skin first. It’s easy to do it, and it makes sure that you get the full benefits. Plus, avocados are small and easy to carry around with you.
On your travels, having avocado gives you access to Vitamin C, and K, proteins, lipids, vitamins, and minerals in substantial quantity – without you having to worry about where to eat next.
Since the fruit seed helps you lower your high cholesterol level, get a robust digestive tract and have a healthy heart, I would doubly recommend it on your travels.

“I understand the importance of maintaining a healthy diet even while traveling. Integrating unconventional yet nutritious elements like avocado seeds into your travel routine can be a great way to enhance your health on the go.
Here’s how I incorporate avocado seeds into my travel routine and some tips for others who want to maximize their health benefits.
Integrating Avocado Seeds into Travel Routines
1. Preparation Before Travel:
- Pre-Trip Prep: Before a trip, dehydrate your avocado seeds. Slice them thinly and bake them at low heat (around 150°F) until completely dry and crisp. This concentrated form makes them lighter and easier to pack.
- On-the-Go Power: Grind the dehydrated seeds into a powder using a portable coffee grinder or a mortar and pestle (if you’re feeling adventurous!). This powder is compact and easily incorporated into various travel-friendly meals.
- Packing: Store the powder in a small, airtight container or zip-lock bag, which makes it convenient and portable.
2. Usage While Traveling:
- Smoothies: One of the easiest ways to incorporate avocado seed powder is in smoothies. Mix it with whatever fruits are locally available and protein powder for a nutrient-rich drink.
- Oatmeal or Yogurt: Sprinkling avocado seed powder over oatmeal or mixing it into yogurt can boost your fiber intake and add valuable nutrients to a simple meal.
Tips for Maximizing Health Benefits on the Go
1. Portion Control: Remember, research on avocado seeds is still developing. Start with a small amount of powder (around ½ teaspoon) and see how you tolerate it.
2. Combine with a Balanced Diet: While avocado seed powder adds value, it should complement a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains.
3. Stay Hydrated: Increased fiber intake, especially from sources like avocado seeds, requires adequate hydration to help maintain digestive health.
4. Consult a Doctor: If you have any underlying health conditions, consult your doctor before incorporating avocado seeds into your diet.
5. Experiment with Flavors: Avocado seed powder has a slightly bitter taste. To mask this, experiment with spices like cinnamon or nutmeg in your travel meals.

While avocado seeds are nutritious, it’s important to consume them in moderation due to their potent properties. Additionally, anyone with allergies or specific health conditions should consult a healthcare provider before introducing a new element to their diet.

But How Can You Process Avocado Seeds?
That’s probably the next question you have – you don’t want to spend too much time on it when you’re outside. And that’s why I suggest you to take avocado seeds in one of the simple ways below.
1. Avocado Seed Tea
Say no to the caffeine, and switch to a healthy substitute of avocado seed tea. It is a richly brewed concoction blended to perfect the body. It helps us both physically and mentally to build a wholesome lifestyle.
- First, deseed an avocado from its flesh. Then bring it to a boil for 5 minutes.
- Then remove the softened seed from the water. Cut them into small pieces or grind them in a blender.
- To brew the tea – Take two cups of water with the pieces of avocado seed. Let it simmer for 7-8 minutes.
- Then, serve with natural sweeteners like honey.
2. Avocado Seed Powder
This one’s another way to take in all the goodness. The freeze-dried pulp will then be blended to create avocado powder. This powder is the main condiment in making milkshakes, and smoothie bowls.
The golden brown avocado seed can also be included in our diet to build a healthy life. The fruitful source can be blended as an effective face scrub and supplement other DIY beauty remedies. Avocado seed powder acts as nature’s cosmetic gift to protect, cleanse and brighten the skin. It contains ingredients like Vitamin E, particularly saponin, which helps us to use this product as a face cleanser. The presence of many unsaturated fatty acids aids the skin in brightening up from its darker shades. And you can make it easily.
- Clean the seed thoroughly Once you remove it from its pulp.
- To dry the seed, leave it on the countertop overnight or place it in the oven for 2 to 3 hours.
- To powder the seeds – use a blender to crush them. It can also be converted to a refined powder with the help of a grater.
3. Avocado Seed Oil
Avocado seed oil is a natural skin health supplement for ageing and dry skin. The presence of lutein and Vitamin E helps in embellishing the skin and eye health. As avocado seed contains about 15-20% oil content, the source is used to process oil. It is usually processed by extraction method.
The Avocado seed oil has regenerative properties and is a suitable emollient for all skin types. It can also be used as a natural product for adding to hand lotions, soaps and other cosmetic products. While you cannot make this on your travels, I am sure you could get it from a supermarket nearby.
4. Avocado Seed dye
The golden-brown seed is also naturally dyed into a soft pinkish colour. This environment-friendly plant dye for fabrics is used to ink by steaming the pods. Without any help from any chemical mordants, in the calmness of our home, one could dye the material naturally. At least ten pods of Avocado seeds must be used thoroughly to dye the cloth. And here is how to do it.
- Clean the seed properly. Take a steel pot and fill it with two-thirds water.
- Add the avocado seed and let it boil for 35 to 60 minutes. Then remove the source and replace it with the fabric.
- After 10 minutes, the fabric would be adorned with a light peach colour. Simmer it for more time to intensify the colour shade.
- Then remove it from the fabric and wash it with warm water. Hang them in the sunlight to bond the ink with the material.
5. Avocado Seed Shampoo
This is one of my favorite ways to try out using avocado seeds. And it doesn’t involve eating it! Just replace those synthetic shampoos with DIY avocado seed shampoos for thicker hair growth. Antioxidant properties in the avocado seeds help soften the hair and prevent it from greying. Did I add that you can make this on your own too?
Thoroughly wash and dry the avocado seeds. Then, either grate it manually or use a blender. Then, boil the powder with some water for thirty minutes. Finally, add this concoction with aloe vera gel or other natural shampoos for best results.
6. Make Mexican Sauces
Okay, this one’s got to be my second-best favorite way to get avocado seeds into the diet. And this involves the flavor of Mexican cuisine. If you crave the mole and enchilada sauce, grated avocado seed can be used as a perfect condiment to enhance the colour and taste of these sauces. The key is to add only a preferred quantity of avocado seed powder. Note: Add 1 1/2 teaspoons of avocado seed powder before baking the sauce.
We interviewed Catherine Rall, Certified Nutritionist at Happy V, on this. Here is what she had to say:
“One of the easiest ways to get the health benefits of avocado seeds on the go is to make a supply of avocado seed tea before you go. If you’ll have access to a kitchen while traveling, you can also bring the seeds themselves and make the tea when you get there.
There are also a variety of avocado seed powders and supplements available that may be even more convenient.”
Why I Love Taking Avocado Seeds on My Travels
Avocado seeds are a vast source of antioxidant and antimicrobial quantity as they help to build a healthy body without inflammation or virus intrusions. For me, there are two main reasons I love taking them whenever I plan a trup.
- It is a promising source to cure cancer cells like breast and lung cancer.
- It helps balance the cholesterol levels in the body and helps build a healthy heart.
These seeds are a perfect condiment used to make DIY cosmetic products like face scrubs and masks, which would help the skin to radiate and glow.
