Once we become parents, taking a couples trip becomes mission impossible. Traveling without kids takes a back seat, even though we all know it can do wonders to spice up the marriage and compensate for the romantic lost time.
Use a Professional Site
As with most other services, there are platforms and apps where you can find a babysitter and finally take that trip with your partner. They are a fast and convenient way to book a reliable and experienced service, giving you the peace of mind you need to enjoy your getaway.
Always check the reviews of the babysitter before you hire them, and make sure they are adequately experienced at dealing with kids in a similar age group to your own children. You will likely pay more for these babysitters than you will for a friend’s teenage son or daughter, but you’re getting much more for your money. These guys are professionals—they know what they’re doing.
Ask Friends and Family
Ask your friends, neighbors, and co-workers if they have any experience with babysitters. Ask them who they hire and if they would recommend anyone. They may have done the groundwork for you.
Don’t just take their recommendation and leave it at that, though. Push them—what made the babysitter so good? Were the kids okay with them? Did they leave the house in a mess? Were there any issues? How many times did they look after your child?
Write a List of Your Child’s Needs and Behaviors
You might be so used to the way that your kid behaves that you don’t think to tell the babysitter. But if they do anything specific that might raise concern—such as sleepwalking—the babysitter needs to know about it.
You should also tell them about any specific needs they have, including:
· Dietary requirements
· Toys and teddy bears
· Bedtime stories
· The time they go to bed
· Bathing requirements
Plan for the Worst
Everything will probably go without a hitch, but you should prepare for an emergency just in case. Write down some numbers of friends and family members who live nearby, and instruct the babysitter to contact them in the event of an emergency. Make sure they will have enough food and other essentials, and give them cash to buy things if they run out.
Use a Smart Home Camera
It always helps to have a camera in your home. You can keep an eye on things and make sure nothing untoward is happening. Even a doorbell camera will do, as it means you can see who is coming and going without intruding on the privacy of the babysitter or your children.
Be sure to tell the babysitter that the camera is there. It’s not good practice to spy on them without their knowledge. You can tell them that the camera is there to monitor your children and/or pets and will remain on while you are away.
