There’s something special about thrifting in Montreal—whether you’re a seasoned thrifter or just starting to explore second-hand shopping, the city’s thrift stores are full of hidden gems. You never know what you’ll find, and that’s the thrill of it. Montreal has this perfect blend of vintage style, cool boutiques, and affordable prices that makes thrifting feel more like an adventure than just shopping.

The Best Thrift Stores in Montreal

After researching and scouring the city’s thrift scene, I’ve found a few spots that always deliver. Here are my go-tos:

  • Eva B – If you love quirky, one-of-a-kind items, Eva B is your place. It’s a little wild, with multiple levels of vintage clothing, accessories, and costumes. Honestly, you could spend hours here. Plus, there’s a café if you need to take a break.
  • Annex Vintage – This spot is always on point. They have a great selection of streetwear, denim, and accessories. Every time you go, you will find something new that feels like it was made just for you.
  • Empire Exchange – A great consignment store with a mix of modern and vintage pieces. The quality is always solid, and you can sell or trade clothes here, too. It’s an easy way to refresh your wardrobe and make some cash while you’re at it.
  • Renaissance – If you’re looking for something affordable but still unique, Renaissance is a good bet. It’s a chain of non-profit thrift stores across the city, and it supports a good cause.
  • Le Dressing Vintage – For those days when you’re feeling fancy, this spot has high-quality, designer vintage pieces. It’s a small but awesome place to score rare finds.

The Allure of Vintage Clothing

I’ve always had a thing for vintage—there’s just something about wearing something with history. It feels different. Every item has its own story, and finding those pieces in Montreal’s vintage shops is always a thrill. Whether it’s a leather jacket from the 70s or a band tee from the 90s, vintage adds personality to my wardrobe that I just don’t get from mainstream stores.

Shopping on a Budget

One of the best things about thrift shopping in Montreal? The price. Whether you’re looking for high-end designer items or just a cool jacket, second-hand shopping here is budget-friendly, and let’s be honest, finding a designer piece for a fraction of the cost is one of the most satisfying things ever.

Why Second-Hand Shopping Is So Worth It

Thrift shopping isn’t just about saving money; it’s also about making better choices. I’ve realized how much waste the fashion industry creates, and thrifting is a simple way to reduce that. By buying second-hand, I’m giving clothes a second life and contributing to a more sustainable, ethical way of shopping.

Approximately 13% of Americans shop secondhand for environmental reasons, contributing to the diversion of over 700 million pounds of clothing from landfills annually. Why not be part of such a good cause? And who knows, you might just stumble upon some treasures at an unbelievable price. After all, thrift store shoppers save an average of $1,760 per year by purchasing secondhand items.

A Few Tips for Thrift Store Shopping

If you’re new to thrifting, here are some things I’ve learned along the way:

  • Go often – Stock changes quickly, so the more you visit, the better your chances of finding something great.
  • Don’t be afraid to try things on – Vintage sizing can be tricky, and you never know how a piece will fit until you try it.
  • Check for wear and tear – I always look over items to make sure they’re in good condition before buying.
  • Bring cash – Some smaller stores only accept cash, so it’s a good idea to have some on hand.

Consignment Shops: The Best of Both Worlds

Consignment shops are a little different from regular thrift stores. They sell items on behalf of the original owner, usually higher-end pieces. If you’re looking for quality and designer items, consignment shops like Ruse Boutique are great to check out. They’re often a bit more curated, which means you’ll find some seriously stylish pieces.

Thrifting in Mile End: A Huge Favorite

Mile End is the ultimate neighborhood for thrifting. It’s got this cool, artsy vibe, and you’ll find some of the best second-hand stores in the city. There’s something so special about the mix of creativity and community in this part of Montreal—it makes the whole experience more fun.

One Last Stop

If you are going to roam the streets of Montreal, I have a perfect travel guide for you. Our Canada Hustle app is the perfect companion for all your thrifting adventures.

Available for both Android and iOS users, Canada Hustle delivers unforgettable moments for adrenaline junkies, culture lovers, and laid-back wanderers alike.

Thrifting: A Growing Trend

I keep going back to thrifting because it feels more sustainable. Fast fashion is a big problem, and I feel better knowing I’m making more conscious choices. Plus, buying second-hand is a great way to build a one-of-a-kind wardrobe that’s also better for the planet.

Thrift shopping in Montreal is more than just finding great deals—it’s about finding something special, building a wardrobe that reflects you, and making better choices. If you haven’t checked out the city’s thrift scene yet, you’re missing out. The best part? There’s always something new to find, whether it’s a vintage jacket, a retro pair of boots, or a rare designer piece. Thrifting is an adventure, and Montreal is the city to do it in.
