Located in New Brunswick, Fredericton is a foodie’s delight. It wouldn’t be wrong if I said that your trip to Fredericton would be incomplete if you don’t visit at least a few of its amazing restaurants. These restaurants have some of the best chefs from around the world. So, you have a chance to grab some of the finest and delicious food.
And I mean it because you will find not just amazing, authentic Canadian cuisine but also great Caribbean and Cuban cuisine, with tasty and mouth-watering plates of seafood. I guarantee that you will never forget the taste in your lifetime. Moreover, all of these restaurants offer excellent service and quality, along with a fantastic drinks menu! I think I must tell you the best picks there.
1. The Palate
An intimate, high-end dining place, The Palate is a must-visit restaurant for any culinary enthusiast. Owned and managed by the locals, the restaurant is situated in the center of the Garrison district at 462 Queen Street.
The Palate offers a beautiful, pleasant atmosphere with interiors decorated with fine pieces of art, and my favourite part is that it has an open kitchen so you can see and sense the deliciousness of cooking! Moreover, if you like indulging in some fantastic wine, this place has an extensive collection from all over the globe. And to serve your cravings, a quality selection of craft beers, as well as ciders is also here.
One more thing I like about this one is they try to make it a sustainable and healthy choice for you and your friends and family. Most of its ingredients are locally sourced from farmers and fishermen.
2. Wolastoq Wharf
As you can guess, Wolastoq Wharf is best known for its delicious seafood. Situated at 527 Union Stree,, the atmosphere of this place is very warm and welcoming. The restaurant is both owned and managed by St. Mary’s First Nation.
Many locals and tourists alike would tell you that this place has the best fish in the entire area, so obviously, you have to try their fresh fish! I would also recommend you try their seafood fettuccine and seafood risotto. Plus, they source their items locally, such as lobsters, clams, mussels, and scallops.
In case you are not a fan of seafood, you can still enjoy this place as they have a wide range of gluten-free and vegan options. Moreover, their desserts are extremely popular as well so make sure to save some space in your tummy for them!
3. Isaac’s Way
A laid-back and unorthodox place offering some delicious and yummy food, Isaac’s Way is located at 649 Queen Street. This eatery’s primary focus is on supporting the local community. I loved the paintings of local artists on the walls of this restaurant. And, you know what, we can even purchase these artworks and support these artists.
Coming back to why you are here, the food here is absolutely amazing. They offer a wide variety of dishes. In the evening, they offer seafood and steak, while their lunch menu includes a very wide range of innovative soups, salads, and sandwiches.
Even if you are a vegetarian, it is not a problem, and you can still come and enjoy this place as a huge variety of vegetarian food is also offered along with gluten-free options.
4. The Claudine’s Eatery
If you are looking for some East Coast comfort food, this is the place for you! A family-owned restaurant, Claudine’s Eatery is situated at 138 Dundonald Street. I am sure. you will love the Seafood Chowder, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Eggs Benedict, Jumbo Lobster Rolls and California Club Sandwiches.
The warm and lovely atmosphere and service provided by this eatery are what sets it apart, and I am sure you, too, will have a lovely experience here. If your schedule permits, you must drop by for breakfast as that is the best time to visit this place.
5. 540 Kitchen & Bar
Looking for a gastro-pub experience? If so, I have a perfect destination for you– 540 Kitchen & Bar. Here, you can enjoy a variety of tasty food as well as some fantastic craft beers. It is located at 540 Queen St. You can have great food alongside small plates as well as special brews. The menu they offer for lunch is very small but has variety.
I must tell you to try the Mac & Cheese, Cuban sandwiches, Indian Butter Chicken and fish tacos there. I would also suggest you try their sweet potato fries, which are very crunchy and crispy.
6. 11th Mile
11th Mile is another very popular pub and restaurant located at 79 York Street. The restaurant is chef-owned and they offer a social dining experience. Moreover, the atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxing, and you can enjoy their tasty meals, prepared using local ingredients. You must also try their special cocktails; you will love them!
7. MOCO Downtown
My next recommendation is the MOCO Downtown, situated at 100 Regent Street. I am telling you this because this will offer you a modern Italian fare setting that is gratifying. Their menu includes pasta, seafood, grilled steaks, and a variety of wines. What’s more, a semi-private place is also provided by them on the upper floor.
8. Lunar Rogue Pub
Regarded as the best whiskey bar and restaurant in the city, Lunar Rogue Pub is situated at 625 King Street. You can find more than 700 kinds of whiskeys here, and trust me, no other pub provides that variety of drinks. Their wine list is also quite extensive. The beautiful offerings of the restaurant are a fine assortment of beers, kind-hearted staff and a very comfortable outdoor balcony.
9. The Cabin
If you are very hungry and looking for a quick meal, then Cabin Restaurant is there for you. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and are situated at 723 Woodstock Rd.
I found that the size of the restaurant is small, but you can’t judge their food quality and service based on its size. Their service and quality of food are good enough to compete with other big restaurants in Fredericton. I feel that sometimes visiting this kind of small and beautiful restaurant is much better than going to a big and crowded place.
10. Park’s Noodles and Sushi
This homely restaurant, situated at 602 Queen Street, is popular for its offerings of sushi noodles and other kinds of noodles. And don’t worry, noodles aren’t the only thing on the menu; there is a lot more!
I hope that this guide to the local restaurants will help you make the most out of your visit to Fredericton. All of these restaurants are famous for their quality food and pleasant environment, and they are very consistent with their service; whenever you visit these restaurants, they will always provide you with excellent service.
