Are you travelling to Canada in the warmer months by any chance? Then let me tell you, the scorching temperatures can reach up to 30°C. Hence you need sunscreen to protect your skin. If someone asks me my secret beauty tip, it’s always the sunscreen.
Okay, so you are travelling to Canada. Then you can’t stop yourself from visiting beaches, hiking, or exploring the beautiful gardens there. However, you must know that the sun can affect your skin adversely if you do not use sunscreen. And who wants to deal with tan removal for a month after having a 3-day vacation? You will get some sunscreen brands in Canada itself. I’ll tell you about them.
1. Attitude SPF 30 Sunscreen Stick
Attitude is a Canada-based company that produces personal care and cleaning products. Their mineral sunscreen is interesting as it is a 20% zinc sunscreen without silicones and at a reasonable price. When you apply this sunscreen, you will notice that it appears to be very natural and skin-like, it will also protect your skin against UV rays.
2. Neutrogena Clear Face Lotion Sunscreen
This liquid lotion face sunscreen is a great drugstore product for sensitive skin and acne-prone skin and gives awesome sun protection. Neutrogena is your perfect partner for a vacation as it rubs in pretty quickly and is also water resistant for almost 80 minutes. That means you can go swimming or on a trail freely after applying it. The formula has several emollients and silicones that give the product a soft, silky feel and also doesn’t feel heavy, greasy, or oily even if you sweat.
The Canada Hustle team talked to Akanksha Kulkarni, Health Expert at Prowise Healthcare, about the key characteristics to look for in sunscreen for your skincare routine. Here is what she said:

“Selecting the appropriate sunscreen is crucial for effective skin care and protection against harmful UV rays. As a health expert, I emphasize that understanding your skin type is essential when choosing the right sunscreen. Here’s a detailed guide to help you make an informed decision:
If you have oily skin, look for sunscreens labeled as “oil-free” or “non-comedogenic.” Gel-based or water-based formulations are ideal as they are lightweight and do not clog pores. Ingredients like silica or isododecane help in absorbing excess oil and providing a matte finish.
For dry skin, moisturizing sunscreens are your best bet. Opt for products containing hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides. Cream-based sunscreens provide the necessary hydration while protecting against UV damage.
Those with sensitive skin should choose sunscreens with physical blockers like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These ingredients are less likely to cause irritation compared to chemical filters. Additionally, avoid sunscreens with fragrances, alcohol, and other potential irritants.
Combination skin requires a balanced approach. Lightweight, non-comedogenic sunscreens with a mix of hydrating and oil-absorbing ingredients work well. Look for formulations that offer a good balance without being too greasy or too drying.
By understanding your skin type and selecting a sunscreen that caters to its specific needs, you can ensure optimal protection and maintain healthy, radiant skin.”
3. Supergoop! Mineral Sheer Screen
Supergoop is one of the most famous brands with various types of sunscreens like serum, lotion, and even powder serum. The consistency is creamy and almost whipped texture that is more like a moisturizer. Do you know why I love this product, it’s not sticky, is completely clear, and is super lightweight. You will notice some kind of fragrance, but it is very subtle and can be ignored.
4. SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion Sunscreen SPF50
SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion Defense UV Sunscreen is one of most dermatologists’ approved products. The mineral sunscreen is tinted and has SPF 50 for spectrum protection against the long waves of UVA-B rays. On your skin, it will set properly within 15 minutes after putting it on, and there is almost less to no greasy residue even if you apply this on a sweaty sunny day. Even though it is $34 for 1.7 ounces a bottle, it is worth it as this is more effective and can protect your skin daily.
5. Garnier Ombrelle Lotion Sunscreen SPF60
I am a big fan of Garnier products. It is a big and old company with many personal care and skin care products for everyone. This mineral sunscreen has a non-greasy and lightweight formula. You can choose from the two variations of this sunscreen: SPF30 and SPF60. These sunscreens work for almost about 3 hours, and due to this, they not only protect but also nourish your skin.
6. La Roche Posay Anthelios 50 Sunscreen
La Roche Posay Anthelios 50 Sunscreen is perfect for oily skin and has a matte finish. This is a 100% mineral sunscreen formula with the main physical sunscreen blockers titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, you will be amazed that these blockers provide SPF 50 protection to the skin.
7. Cerave Facial Lotion SPF30
Now we come to my skin’s saviour, literally! Cera ve is the most famous and loved brand with many skincare products, and even most dermatologists recommend this brand. It has parabens, ceramides, niacinamide, and chemical and physical sunscreen ingredients that your skin will thank you for. Just apply it to the face and neck and wait for 15 minutes for it to settle down into the skin.
We interviewed Alexa Skin, a Blogger at Alexa Skin, and talked about the main characteristics to look for in sunscreen for your skincare routine. Here is an excerpt from the interview:

“Choosing the right sunscreen depends on your skin type: moisturizing SPFs with glycerin and hyaluronic acid are ideal for dry skin while mattifying, water-based, or oil-free options with niacinamide suit oily skin.
For sensitive skin, opt for mineral sunscreens with zinc or titanium dioxide. Always consider additional benefits like anti-aging ingredients for mature skin and ensure your SPF is broad-spectrum and SPF 30 or higher.”
8. Colorscience Sunforgettable SPF 50 Powder
Colorscience has many types of sunscreens, but there is one sunscreen that tops overall. It is their powder sunscreen. Yes, you read that right, a powder sunscreen. The fact that you can apply this over your makeup and get enough protection from rays is awesome. It also has great resistance against water for 80 minutes, hence you can wear this when going into the ocean.
9. Shiseido UV protector Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++
Shiseido is a Japanese skincare and makeup brand, it is the most famous Japanese brand in the world. The Shiseido UV protector Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ particular is very famous and recommended by dermatologists. You must make this sunscreen your permanent travel partner as it absorbs very quickly, has no white cast, and is also perspiration-resistant.
10. La Roche Anthelios Milk Sunscreen
This sheer mineral La Roche sunscreen will give you broad-spectrum protection with a pretty high SPF. This chemical sunscreen blends so nicely and is good for everyone and anyone, especially sensitive skin. I love this product because it has moisturizers like glycerin and is infused with antioxidants. Also, this sunscreen melts in your skin like anything. Just apply it for 15 minutes before going out in the sun!
11. EltaMD UV Clear Tinted Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen
EltaMD UV Clear Tinted Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen is very lightweight and has a silky texture. The reason it deserves a place in your travel kit is because it absorbs fast without being heavy or greasy on the skin. This is because of Cyclomethicone which is the type of silicone that gives the sunscreen a smooth texture, it also has a drier finish and evaporates quickly. By buying this, you are paying for moisturizer, and face cream with sunscreen!
In an interview with the Canada Hustle team, Diane Howard, RN and Founder of Esthetic Finesse, shared her views on using sunscreen. Here is what she had to say:

“When considering the perfect sunscreen for your skincare routine, it ultimately boils down to your activity level. For those quick trips between errands, a tinted, lightweight SPF could be your go-to choice.
However, if you’re gearing up for a day filled with all-day activities like hiking, opting for a more intense SPF is a must for your skin. Don’t forget to reapply!”
